Building Stronger Organisations Through People

Mairead Scott

Managing Director, Honeycomb Jobs

One of the privileges of my role at Honeycomb is the opportunity to work alongside organisations that make a genuine difference to people's lives every day.

Over the past eight years, we've partnered with charities, community organisations, housing associations, educational bodies and public sector organisations across Northern Ireland. Through those relationships, I've developed a deep appreciation for the scale of the contribution made by the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector, and the challenges many organisations are navigating.

The reality is that the sector is being asked to do more than ever before. Demand for services continues to grow, while funding pressures, workforce shortages and increasing governance requirements create additional complexity for leaders and teams. Many organisations are operating in environments where resources are stretched, yet expectations around accountability, compliance and service delivery continue to increase.

In conversations with leaders across the sector, one challenge arises time and again: finding and retaining the right people.

Whether it's a finance professional responsible for managing increasingly complex funding streams, an operations lead supporting frontline services, or an executive support professional helping leadership teams operate effectively, the right people can have a transformative impact on an organisation's ability to deliver its mission.

What makes recruitment within the sector particularly unique is that technical capability alone is rarely enough. Organisations need people who understand purpose, who align with organisational values and who are motivated by making a meaningful contribution to communities. Finding that combination of skills, experience and cultural fit requires a thoughtful and consultative approach.

At Honeycomb, we've built specialist expertise supporting organisations across the public, voluntary and community sectors to attract talent across business support, corporate services, operations and governance-focused roles. More importantly, we've taken the time to understand the environments in which these organisations operate and the vital role they play within our communities.

For us, supporting the sector goes beyond recruitment. It's about helping organisations build the capacity, resilience and leadership they need to continue delivering positive outcomes for the people who rely on them.

As proud sponsors of the NICVA Summit 2026, we're looking forward to joining conversations that inspire, connect and strengthen the sector. At a time when collaboration and shared learning have never been more important, events like this provide an invaluable opportunity to explore challenges, share ideas and collectively shape the future of Northern Ireland's voluntary and community sector.

I look forward to listening, learning and continuing to support the organisations whose work creates lasting impact across our communities every day.
